ArcGIS problem: suddenly disappears when clicked to open

Windows is an operating system that is constantly updated. Various features are continuously being renewed. However, sometimes this causes existing applications/software to no longer work, including the well-known GIS software: ArcMap.

It’s very frustrating when it was working just fine yesterday, but now it doesn’t work anymore, especially when there’s an ongoing project. The trouble is, even after reinstalling, the problem still persists.

ESRI’s website provides a solution by adjusting the Firewall settings. This is likely because when Windows updates, security is enhanced, especially on the Firewall side. As a result, server-based applications, such as the License Manager, may no longer function due to being blocked.

Simply open Firewall on Windows by typing ‘Firewall’ in the search bar. Choose the icon with a wall symbol. Next, just select ‘advanced’ setting.

Simply open Firewalls on Windows by typing ‘Firewall’ in the search bar. Choose the icon with a wall symbol. Next, just select ‘advanced’ settings.

Just click ‘Next’ to continue the setup, select the programs that require permission to access, for ArcGIS/ArcMap, it would be ArcMap.exe, lmgrd.exe, and LSadmin.exe. Name the firewall rule the same as the program names. Once done, your problem should be resolved.

If you look at the inbound rules, make sure that all three required applications for ArcGIS have their status set to ‘Enable’ and ‘Allow’. That’s it, I hope this helps to resolve this frustrating issue.
